Balangir: Sept 5 [UDN}:A district-level programme was organised at the auditorium of Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for the disbursement of the fifth instalment under the ‘Subhadra’ scheme. Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling attended the programme as the chief guest. Lok Sabha MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, District Planning Board Chairman and Kantabanji MLA Laxman Bag, and District Collector Gaurav Shivaji Isalwar were among the other dignitaries present. Additional District Magistrate Dr. Bijayananda Sethi, CDMO Pushpanjali Mishra and District Social Welfare Officer Bijayalakshmi Nisha also attended.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi virtually disbursed the fifth instalment of the ‘Subhadra’ scheme to women beneficiaries across the state. In this phase, 25,316 beneficiaries in Balangir district received the fifth instalment. A total of 4,29,611 beneficiaries in the district are set to benefit from the scheme.
Chief guest Dr. Mahaling praised the contribution of women to nation-building and said, “Empowering women is the true foundation of a prosperous society.”
He said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the ‘Subhadra’ scheme is making women self-reliant and empowered while strengthening the rural economy. He stated that 90,862 beneficiaries in the district have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and achieved financial self-reliance. The highest number of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in the district are reportedly from Puintala Block under the Loisingha Assembly constituency.
He further said that Belpada, from where thousands of women once migrated to other states in search of work, has now seen the emergence of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ through the ‘Subhadra’ scheme.
It was also stated that more than ₹1 crore has been provided through the scheme at every booth.
MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo highlighted the success of the ‘Subhadra’ scheme, saying that it is not merely financial assistance but also a symbol of respect, trust and empowerment for women. Kantabanji MLA Laxman Bag described the scheme as a symbol of respect for the dreams, hard work and self-respect of women.
District Collector Isalwar said the ‘Subhadra’ scheme has further strengthened women’s empowerment in the district. He said the scheme has played an important role in promoting women’s financial independence and social empowerment.
Under the scheme, Draupadi Sahu of Agalpur Block and Layabati Bhati of Deogaon Block have become self-reliant through mushroom cultivation, while Bishakha Sahu of Khaprakhol Block has become self-reliant through tailoring and related activities. The three women were felicitated at the programme. They shared their success stories and thanked the government for providing them with opportunities to become self-reliant through the ‘Subhadra’ scheme.
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, mothers and sisters present at the programme tied rakhi to the guests and conveyed their affection and good wishes.
Hundreds of women from different parts of the district, along with Anganwadi workers and representatives of voluntary organisations, attended the programme. District Project Coordinator Shivani Thakur, Project Officer Anupama Hess, Protection Officer Sujata Dora and other employees of the District Social Welfare Department assisted in conducting the event.
