Sambalpur ,1st Sept 2025: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced that a proposal will be submitted to grant Geographical Indication (GI) tag to the traditional Odia delicacy Sarasatia Pitha.
During his visit to enjoy Sarasatia — a unique dish from Western Odisha — locals placed a formal request to initiate the GI tagging process. Recognizing its cultural and culinary significance, especially during the Nuakhai festival, the minister responded positively.
He stated that GI recognition would help elevate the status of Sarasatia on the global culinary map, bringing attention to Odisha’s rich food heritage.
Minister Pradhan also mentioned that he has instructed the District Collector to begin necessary procedures, and assured that the Revenue Minister, Panchayati Raj Minister, and local MLAs will extend full support in this initiative.
This step is expected to preserve and promote a unique part of Sambalpur’s identity, while potentially boosting local economy through increased recognition and demand.
