Malkangiri, Aug 28 [UDN}:A special handloom Rakhi exhibition has been formally inaugurated near the office of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in Malkangiri under the aegis of the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORDMS).
The exhibition and sales centre was jointly inaugurated by Malkangiri Additional District Magistrate Mr. Bedabar Pradhan and Chief Development Officer-cum-Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad, Mr. Dasharathi Sarabu.
On the occasion, Project Administrator of ITDA Mr. Haldhar Sabar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ORDMS Ms. Swastika Pradhan, Finance Manager Mr. Manas Mishra, Livelihood Project Manager Mr. Balaji Patnaik and Skill Project Manager Mr. Himanshu Bhushan Maharana, along with several senior officials of the organisation, were present.
The special exhibition will remain open to the public until August 28. A wide range of attractive handloom Rakhis made by local women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs), tribal artisans from the Bonda community and SHGs from other districts are being displayed and sold at the venue.
Keeping environmental protection in mind, the Rakhis have been crafted using completely natural and locally available materials such as straw, cloth, palm leaves and paper, making them eco-friendly.
This commendable initiative by the government organisation will provide a platform to showcase the hidden creativity and skills of rural women and tribal artisans. It is also expected to contribute significantly to strengthening their livelihoods and economic empowerment.
