Heavy Rain Triggers Flood Fears in Northern Odisha as River Levels Rise

Bhubaneswar, July 11, 2025: Due to the impact of a low-pressure system over Jharkhand, heavy rainfall has lashed several regions, leading to a significant rise in river water levels across northern Odisha, particularly affecting Balasore district, where flood-like conditions have resurfaced.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and weather experts, the situation may worsen in the coming days as two more low-pressure systems are expected to form — one around July 13 and another near July 23. These developments are likely to bring widespread and intensified rainfall across the state.

With rivers already swollen from the current rainfall, experts warn of a high risk of flooding in several river basins if the upcoming weather systems unfold as projected.

District administrations in vulnerable areas have been put on alert, and disaster response teams are on standby to manage any emergency. The state government has urged residents in low-lying and riverbank regions to remain cautious and follow safety advisories.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as Odisha braces for a week of heavy downpours and potential flood threats, especially in regions already impacted by rising water levels.
