Keonjhar, Aug. 17 (UDN): Incessant rainfall has severely disrupted normal life in parts of Keonjhar district, with a key road washed away at Mangalpur under Padua Panchayat in Champua block, cutting off more than five panchayats from the surrounding areas.

The situation has become particularly critical near the Bagdega nullah, where heavy rain has caused a sharp rise in the water level. Nearly two feet of water is reportedly flowing over the culvert, making the crossing extremely dangerous and effectively bringing traffic movement to a halt.
Connectivity Severely Affected
The road disruption has affected residents of Padua, Bhanda and several adjoining panchayats, creating major difficulties for daily commuters and people dependent on the route for essential services.
With water continuing to flow over the damaged stretch, residents have been forced to look for alternative routes, wherever available. Locals fear that continued rainfall could further weaken the road and worsen the connectivity crisis.
The situation has also raised concerns over access to essential services, including healthcare, education and transportation, particularly for people living in remote areas.
Champua Records Heavy Rainfall
The intensity of the rainfall was evident from the 121 mm of rain recorded in Champua, with the downpour continuing to affect the region.
Residents are closely monitoring the rising water level and the condition of the damaged road. They have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to restore connectivity and ensure safe passage once water levels recede.
With more rain forecast in the region, the administration faces the challenge of preventing further damage and maintaining connectivity to the affected panchayats.
