Bhubaneswar, June 29 {UDN}:  The Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Act, 2026 has been published in the Gazette of India after receiving the assent of the President of India.
Under this Act, the Railways Act, 1989 has been amended.
Key changes include:
Under Section 137 of the Railways Act, passengers found travelling without a valid ticket or pass, or attempting to defraud the railway administration, will face stricter penalties.
An additional charge will be levied on those travelling without a valid ticket or pass.
The minimum additional charge has been increased from ₹250 to ₹500.
If the imposed penalty is not paid, the offender may be required to appear before a court and face legal proceedings.
