Jharsuguda: Aug 21 [UDN}:In an effort to encourage students with disabilities to pursue higher education and empower them through digital technology, the Odisha Government’s Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has been undertaking several special initiatives.
As part of this initiative, Jharsuguda District Collector Kunal Motiram Chandan provided a free laptop to a meritorious visually impaired student. District Social Security Officer Sunil Kumar Naik was also present on the occasion.
Under the government’s scheme, eligible students pursuing graduation and higher studies who have 40% or more visual impairment are provided laptops free of cost to support their education. The assistance is aimed at enabling visually impaired students to access digital learning resources and continue their higher studies with greater ease.
On the occasion, the Collector handed over the laptop at his office to Babita Choudhury, a visually impaired student from Thebra village under Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda district. He congratulated her and extended his best wishes for her bright future and success in higher education.
The provision of laptops is expected to significantly benefit visually impaired students pursuing undergraduate studies by helping them in education, research, digital learning and skill development. Access to digital technology can also provide greater opportunities for students with visual disabilities to independently access educational materials and improve their academic capabilities.
It is worth mentioning that, under the same government initiative, 10 eligible students with disabilities in Jharsuguda district have already been provided free laptops. The initiative is being viewed as an important step toward promoting inclusive education, improving digital accessibility and empowering students with disabilities to pursue higher education and build better career opportunities.
