New Delhi, Nov 12: Justice Sanjiv Khanna was officially sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India on Monday. The oath-taking ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath. Justice Khanna took the oath in English, swearing in the name of God.

Justice Khanna, born on May 14, 1960, will serve as CJI for a little over six months, retiring on May 13, 2025, upon turning 65, the mandatory retirement age for the position.
Prior to his appointment as CJI, Justice Khanna served as a judge of the Supreme Court since 2019, after having a notable career in the Delhi High Court. His tenure is expected to focus on addressing case backlogs, improving judicial processes, and promoting accessibility and fairness in the judicial system.
