Umerkote, 23rd Oct 2025: With the arrival of Kartika month, also known as a holy month, vegetable prices have skyrocketed. As people usually avoid non-vegetarian food during Kartika, there is a greater focus on vegetarian meals, causing a spike in demand.
Except for potatoes and onions, the price of most fresh vegetables has gone above ₹50 per kg. For example:
Beans: over Rs100
Local pointed gourd (desi potol):Rs80
Ridge gourd (bimb): nearingRs120
Ladyfinger (bhindi): Rs70
Tomato (bilati):Rs40
Brinjal (baigana): Rs60
Pointed gourd (potol): Rs60
Drumstick (sajana danta):Rs100
Raw plantain (kancha kadali): Rs10 per piece
Prices are similar across most parts of the state, raising concern among the general public.
Buyers who used to purchase vegetables by the kilogram are now reconsidering and opting for just half a kilo, thinking multiple times before buying. With prices heavily impacting monthly household budgets, many housewives are anxious daily about what to cook for their families.
