Khairmal Bridge Submerged, Connectivity Hit in Sonepur

Sonepur, July 7 (UDN): Continuous rainfall has disrupted normal life in Odisha’s Sonepur district after floodwaters submerged the Khairmal Bridge under Singhijuba Gram Panchayat in Binika block. Around 1.5 feet of water is flowing over the bridge, cutting off road connectivity and posing serious risks to commuters.

With no immediate alternative route available, residents have been forced to cross the flooded bridge on foot and on two-wheelers, putting their safety at risk. The inundation has affected daily commuting and hampered access to schools, healthcare facilities, markets, and other essential services.

The recurring flooding of the Khairmal Bridge during the monsoon has once again highlighted the need for permanent infrastructure in the area. Local residents have renewed their demand for the construction of a high-level bridge to ensure year-round connectivity and prevent similar disruptions during future floods.

People have urged the state government and district administration to take immediate steps to address the issue and expedite the construction of an elevated bridge. They believe such a project would not only improve connectivity but also enhance public safety and support economic activities in the region.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid crossing the submerged bridge until water levels recede and to follow safety precautions during the ongoing spell of heavy rainfall.
