Jeypore, 28th Aug 2025: A low-pressure area persists over the state. Due to its effect, continuous heavy rain is lashing Lamtaput in Koraput district. As a result, the water level in Machkund and Jalaput reservoirs is rising.
For safety reasons, the authorities have opened four gates of two reservoirs. The danger mark of the Jalaput main reservoir is 2750 feet, while the present water level has reached 2748.15 feet. Gates No. 4 and 39 of the dam have been opened, releasing about 5,000 cusecs of water into the Machkund reservoir.
Similarly, due to rising water level in the Machkund dam, the authorities have opened gates No. 6 and 1. While the danger mark of the Machkund reservoir is 2590 feet, the present water level stands at 2587 feet. From Machkund dam, two gates have been opened, releasing around 6,000 cusecs of water per second into the Machkund river.
Several areas of the block have been submerged. The administration has issued warnings to the people and, in waterlogged areas, is using JCB machines to dig channels for drainage.
