Kendujhar, Aug. 14 (UDN): A landslide triggered by incessant rainfall disrupted vehicular movement on National Highway-49 near Dhalapathara in Kanjipani Ghati of Kendujhar district late Thursday night.

The landslide occurred around midnight, when a large quantity of soil, rocks and uprooted trees came down from the hillside and blocked one side of the four-lane highway.
Traffic Disrupted Overnight
Following the incident, vehicular movement on the affected stretch was stopped during the night as a precautionary measure. The landslide raised concerns among commuters travelling through the hilly corridor amid continuing rainfall.
After being alerted, officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reached the spot on Friday morning and launched clearance operations.
Heavy Machinery Deployed
Two JCB machines and a Hyva truck have been pressed into service to remove the accumulated soil, rocks and debris from the road.
Officials involved in the restoration work said intermittent rainfall is slowing down the clearance operation. Despite the weather-related challenges, efforts are continuing on a priority basis to restore normal traffic movement.
Authorities expect the affected portion of the highway to be cleared within the next two to three hours, subject to weather conditions.
Commuters have been advised to exercise caution while passing through the area as restoration work continues and rainfall persists in the region.
