Lanjia Saora Women Struggling to Access ‘Subhadra’ Scheme Benefits

Many women from the Lanjia Saora tribal community in Odisha are facing difficulties in benefiting from the state government’s ‘Subhadra’ scheme, aimed at empowering women. Despite applying for the scheme, numerous women, particularly from Gunpur block in Rayagada district, have not received the first installment of financial aid.

The primary reasons for this exclusion are lack of awareness and issues with documentation. Many women are unaware of the scheme, and even those who have applied are facing challenges due to errors in their Aadhaar cards and unlinked bank accounts. As a result, they are unable to access the benefits.

In areas like Putasing and Kulasing, nearly 40% of women who applied for the scheme are still waiting for their first payment. Local leaders and residents suggest that organizing awareness camps on Aadhaar corrections and linking bank accounts could help many women access the scheme’s benefits.

This situation underscores the need for improved outreach and support to ensure marginalized communities can fully benefit from government initiatives.
