Nabarangpur, Feb, 19:A district-level Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Program was organized at the local Urban Primary Health Centre under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate (General) Tapan Kumar Khuntia.
The awareness campaign has begun and will continue until 13 February. Among those present at the program were ADPHO Dr. Sukanta Satapathy, ADMO Dr. Malaya Tripathy, DPM Shankar Acharya, DSSO Sudhanshu Patra, DIPRO Manoj Behera, UPHC Medical Officer Dr. Priyaranjan Nanda, ADEO Srikant Jani, and District Leprosy Eradication Supervisor Sukandra Dangri.
According to official data, between April 2020 and December 2025, a total of 325 persons in the district have been affected by leprosy and are currently under treatment.
To support eradication efforts, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and other health staff will identify suspected leprosy patients in every village and also collect reports from schools.
On this occasion, participants took a pledge to prevent social discrimination against persons affected by leprosy and to support their treatment and rehabilitation. A special leprosy awareness outreach vehicle (awareness chariot) will tour all blocks from today to spread awareness.
