Major Progress in Nabarangpur Railway Line Project with Launch of Land Compensation Disbursement Process for Displaced Landowners

Nabarangpur,Mar, 21:  A compensation distribution program for land acquisition related to the Nabarangpur–Jeypore railway project was held on Tuesday at the office of the local Tehsildar in Nabarangpur.
On this occasion, Lok Sabha MP Balabhadra Majhi attended as the chief guest and distributed a total compensation amount of ₹14.57 crore to eight individuals who had lost their land due to acquisition for the railway project.
Among the distinguished guests present were District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Biswajit Chandra Barman, and Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra. Tehsildar Bhuleswar Nayak welcomed the attendees and conducted the program.
For the project, a total of 6.393 acres of land from six villages under Nabarangpur, Rangpur, and Nandahandi tehsils have been acquired. The acquisition process for an additional 0.588 acres is currently underway. Moreover, 30.155 acres of land in Kesriguda village under Nabarangpur tehsil is under consideration by the Government of Odisha. The acquisition process will begin following further government instructions.
In his address, the MP stated that the Nabarangpur railway project, which had been envisioned since 2016, has now taken a significant step forward with the commencement of land acquisition and compensation distribution. He described the event as a memorable milestone in his life and said the railway project would fulfill the long-standing demand and dream of the people of Nabarangpur district.
The District Collector, in his speech, acknowledged the contribution of those who lost their ancestral land for the project, stating that their sacrifice for the district’s development would always be remembered. He also mentioned that if anyone is dissatisfied with the compensation amount, they may appeal to higher authorities.
The proposed railway lines — Junagarh–Nabarangpur, Nabarangpur–Jeypore, and Malkangiri–Bhadrachalam — spanning a total of 460 km, constitute the second-largest railway project in independent India. The MP expressed that once completed by 2029–30, the project would significantly boost the economic development of Nabarangpur district.
