MLA Felicitates Simanchal Maharana, Congratulates Writer on International Film Festival Achievement

Asika, Oct 3 [UDN}:: Odia short film Adamya has won accolades at the Magical Cairo Montenotte International Film Festival 2026, held in Italy, bringing recognition to Odisha’s creative talent on an international platform.

Recognising this achievement, Asika MLA Saroj Kumar Padhi felicitated internationally acclaimed writer and storyteller Simanchal Maharana, an employee of the Asika Postal Division. Maharana was honoured after returning from Italy, where he received a Jury Award as the story writer of the short film Adamya.

The MLA felicitated Maharana by presenting him with a bouquet and an uttariya (traditional ceremonial stole). The programme was attended by social worker Sangeet Kumar Padhi, former secretary of the Asika Utkal Ayurvedic Cooperative Pharmacy Ltd. Niranjan Mahanty, social worker Bhagaban Sahu, Shiva Kumar Nayak, and several other distinguished personalities.

Written by Simanchal Maharana and produced under the DK Film banner based in Hinjilicut, Adamya reportedly received appreciation from prominent guests, jury members and audiences at the international film festival in Italy.

The short film achieved a notable distinction by winning two awards at the festival as the only Indian short film, according to the report. Film-maker Krishna DK has also previously been felicitated for his acclaimed and contemporary filmmaking style, while writer Simanchal Maharana has received recognition on several occasions for his distinctive storytelling.

The achievement of Maharana, a young writer as well as an employee of the Asika Postal Division, was described as a matter of pride for Asika, Odisha and the country.
