MP Assesses Performance of Various Departments in District Review

Malkangiri, 4th Sept 2025: A review meeting was held in the District Council Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha MP Eng. Balabhadra Majhi. In the meeting, District Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay welcomed all attendees and instructed officials to present the developmental activities undertaken by their respective departments.

On this occasion, the MP instructed all departmental officers to prepare action plans and set targets for the 2029 financial year. He emphasized that priority should be given to poverty alleviation and reducing the number of migrant (Dadan) laborers in the district, and necessary steps should be taken accordingly.

The District Fisheries Officer was directed to increase the district’s fish production capacity to ensure self-sufficiency in fisheries. Similarly, in schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, the Lead Bank Manager was instructed to set enrollment targets so that maximum people can be brought under insurance coverage. It was directed that all eligible beneficiaries must be mandatorily insured.

The district’s economy is primarily agriculture-based. The previously abandoned areas in the Swabhiman region, where ganja (cannabis) cultivation once occurred, are highly fertile. Instructions were given to the Horticulture and Agriculture Departments to encourage local people to utilize these lands for vegetable and fruit cultivation.

Since the district is rich in rivers and water bodies, the Irrigation Department was directed to take necessary steps for effective utilization of water resources locally. Similarly, instructions were given to the Animal Husbandry Department on how poultry, goat, and cattle farming could help people become economically self-reliant.

There were also discussions with the Agriculture Officer regarding fertilizer issues, soil testing of farmlands, and the distribution of soil health cards to farmers. The MP also emphasized the need to support Self-Help Groups (SHGs) so that more women could become “Lakhpati Didis” (women earning over one lakh rupees annually) and instructed the Mission Shakti Department to cooperate in this effort.

Further discussions were held on issues such as road and bridge construction, railway land acquisition, and compensation matters.

Among those present at the meeting were:
