Nabarangpur Shines as Visually Impaired Students Achieve Remarkable Success

Nabarangpur, 29th Aug 2025:  Two visually impaired students from Nabarangpur district have brought pride to the region by winning medals at the Odisha State Junior and Sub-Junior Athletics Championship.

One of them, Bipin Bhoi (90% visually impaired) from Pulsapada village under Chandahandi block’s Dhadipani panchayat, and the other, Jagannath Chalan (40% visually impaired) from Antasaruguda village under Kosagumuda block’s K. Semala panchayat, are both pursuing higher studies at Bikramdev College, Jeypore. Bipin is a +2 Arts second-year student, while Jagannath is a +3 second-year Arts student.

Despite challenges, both have pursued athletics with determination.

Bipin secured silver medals in 100m, 400m, and long jump.

Jagannath bagged silver medals in 100m, 200m, and shot put.

By winning three medals each, the duo has brought six medals in total for the district. Both expressed their desire to compete at the national level and are preparing for it with full dedication.

They also highlighted the lack of government facilities, equipment, and coaches for differently-abled athletes in the district. Many believe that with proper support, numerous hidden talents could emerge from Nabarangpur. The achievements of Bipin and Jagannath are being seen as a source of inspiration for others.

On their return to Nabarangpur after the championship, the local organization ‘Saksham’ felicitated them with flowers and mementos. Saksham president Sujit Rath led the program, while secretary A. Suresh, joint secretary Y. Prabhakar Patra, and other dignitaries including Nihar Mahanti, Kishori Pattnayak, Sharmistha Deo, Loknath Pradhan, Swarnalata Pattnayak, Daminibala Nayak, Parameswari Pahadi, Ranjita Sahu, Rama Padhi, Bikram Jain, Srikant Panda, and Sarat Kumar Das congratulated the medal winners.
