Nabarangpur, Aug 14 [UDN}: On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, a mega blood donation camp was organised at the Nabarangpur Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) under the joint initiative of the District Administration and District Health Society.
The camp aimed to strengthen the availability of blood in the district, ensure adequate blood supply during emergencies and create greater awareness among the youth about voluntary blood donation.
School and Mass Education, ST & SC Development, and Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister Nityananda Gond attended the programme as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the camp. He inspected the arrangements and encouraged the blood donors for their noble contribution.
Nabarangpur MLA and District Planning Board Chairman Gouri Shankar Majhi, District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain, Additional District Magistrate Biswajit Barman, Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra, CDM&PHO Prafulla Kumar Padhi, District Information & Public Relations Officer Manoj Kumar Behera, Deputy Collector Shraddhanjali Sahu, District Project Officer Nilakantha Raju, along with other senior officials, doctors, health workers and volunteers were present.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Nityananda Gond said that blood donation is a noble act that can play a vital role in saving lives during emergencies. He urged all healthy and eligible citizens, particularly young people, to come forward and participate in voluntary blood donation. He also emphasised the need to organise such camps regularly to meet the district’s blood requirements and announced that a similar blood donation camp would be organised at Umerkote in the coming days.
District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain thanked the blood donors and highlighted that voluntary blood donation is an excellent example of humanity and social responsibility. He noted that blood is essential during emergency medical treatment, accidents, surgeries and various critical medical conditions. He urged people to donate blood regularly and collectively contribute towards strengthening the district blood bank.
A large number of doctors, health workers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, members of voluntary organisations, government employees, youths and other voluntary donors enthusiastically participated in the camp. Necessary arrangements were made for medical screening, health checks, blood collection and post-donation care.
The blood collected during the camp will be tested and preserved as per prescribed guidelines and made available through the blood bank of the District Headquarters Hospital for emergency medical requirements.
The District Administration expressed gratitude to all blood donors, healthcare personnel, volunteers and supporting organisations whose enthusiastic participation contributed to the successful conduct of the mega blood donation camp.
