Bhubaneswar, 25th Aug 2025: From now on, students will remain in the same class until they pass the standard examination. Unlike the previous policy, where there was no pass-fail system, the current government has reintroduced it.
If a student fails in the class test or annual exam, they will get another chance to appear for a re-examination within a few days. Only after passing will they be promoted to the higher class, informed School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond.
He pointed out that under the earlier system, children were promoted automatically, and it was difficult to assess what they had actually learned. Now, with the pass-fail arrangement, their learning standards can be properly measured.
At the same time, the Minister appealed to teachers not to neglect teaching duties. The government, he said, is introducing these changes so that children develop interest in studying at government schools.
