Newly Constituted Child Welfare Committee in Nabarangpur district to Focus on Welfare, Rehabilitation, and Rights of Children

Nabarangpur, April 11: As per Notification No. 7930/WCD issued by the Women and Child Development Department of the Odisha Government, the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Nabarangpur has been constituted for the next three years. The committee includes one Chairperson and four members.
Mrs. Annapurna Patra has been appointed as the Chairperson. The members include Mrs. Anupama Mallik (female), Mr. Sanuj Kumar Patra, Mr. Siddharth Shankar Behera, and Mrs. Snehalata Pattnaik (female).
These appointments were made after the tenure of the previous Chairperson and members ended. The committee is an autonomous body formed under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. It works for the rescue, rehabilitation, protection, and overall welfare of children in need of care and protection.
The committee receives children rescued by police, Childline, or social workers and ensures their safety. It takes decisions within 24 hours regarding whether to reunite the child with their family or place them in an appropriate institution.
Its key responsibilities include tracing the child’s family and handing over the child when appropriate, or arranging accommodation in Child Care Institutions (CCI) when necessary. The committee also ensures that children are made aware of their rights, provided legal protection, and given the best possible care, rehabilitation, and protection.
