Odisha Launches ‘Orphan Survey 2025’ to Ensure Child Welfare and Protection

14th July 2025: The Department of Women and Child Development, Odisha, has launched the ‘Orphan Survey – 2025’ to identify and support children who have lost one or both parents. The state-wide initiative began on July 11 and will continue until July 21, 2025.

As part of this effort, Anganwadi workers are conducting door-to-door visits to collect detailed information on children below the age of 18 who have lost both parents, lost one parent while the surviving parent is severely disabled (over 40%) or terminally ill, and unable to earn a livelihood.

The collected data will be verified by Supervisors and forwarded to the District Child Protection Units through the Child Development Project Officers. Eventually, the verified details of each child will be uploaded onto the ‘Amari Sishu’ portal. The Odisha State Child Protection Committee will compile and analyze the data to prepare a comprehensive report.

This survey aims to ensure appropriate care, protection, and planning for the identified children. Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Pravati Parida has urged the active cooperation of Anganwadi workers, Panchayati Raj representatives, and the general public to make this important initiative a success.
