Bhubaneswar, Aug 13 [UDN}:Odisha has proposed a major initiative to remove stray cattle from all national highways across the state and improve road safety. According to the Animal Resources Development Minister, gaushalas will be established at intervals of around 100–150 km along major highways.
Under the proposal, stray cattle found roaming on highways will be rescued and shifted to shelters operated by the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department. The maintenance of these gaushalas may be entrusted to social organisations, while the department will bear the associated expenses.
Local police officials, including Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs), will assist in removing stray cattle from highways.
The move is aimed at preventing road accidents, ensuring safer highway travel and providing proper shelter for stray cattle.
