Odisha Scales Up Tree Plantation Drive for a Greener Future

8th July 2025: In its pursuit of building a greener and more sustainable Odisha, the state government has significantly intensified its tree plantation efforts. Inspired by the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has been actively promoting mass afforestation campaigns across the state.

Last year, under the nationwide initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, Odisha made remarkable progress by planting over 6.69 crore saplings, securing the fourth position nationally in terms of tree plantation. This achievement reflects both administrative commitment and public participation in preserving and enriching the environment.

Building on this momentum, the government has set an even more ambitious target for the current year — the plantation of 7.5 crore saplings across various districts. These efforts are not only aimed at increasing green cover but also at enhancing biodiversity, combating climate change, and improving overall ecological balance in the state.

The campaign has seen active involvement from local communities, schools, colleges, government departments, and NGOs, making it a true people’s movement. Through strategic planning and continuous monitoring, the state ensures high survival rates of the planted trees, thus turning plantation into long-term green assets.

Odisha’s sustained efforts toward reforestation demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental conservation. By fostering a sense of collective responsibility and environmental stewardship, the state is steadily progressing towards its goal of a cleaner, greener, and healthier future.
