Odisha Sees Decline in Road Accidents and Fatalities in January 2025

14th February 2025: Odisha has recorded a notable reduction in road accidents and fatalities in January 2025. Official data shows a decrease of 99 accidents and 144 fatalities compared to previous years, highlighting the success of the National Road Safety Month.

The State Transport Authority (STA) reported 994 accidents and 417 fatalities in January 2025, down from 1,093 accidents and 561 fatalities in January 2024, and 1,199 accidents and 554 fatalities in January 2023. This drop reflects the positive impact of enhanced safety measures and awareness campaigns.

The state government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, launched the ‘Come Home Safe’ campaign in January, focusing on promoting safe driving. Initiatives included increased patrolling, surprise checks for drunk driving, and penalties for overspeeding, along with public awareness efforts.

While this progress is encouraging, the government continues to enforce road safety through measures like the ‘Zero Tolerance Day’ every Wednesday. With continued awareness and enforcement, Odisha aims to maintain the positive trend and ensure safer roads for all.
