Police Driver Recruitment Age Limit Extended by 4 Years, Announces State Govt

Bhubaneswar, 11th Aug 2025: The Orissa High Court has delivered an important verdict regarding the maximum age limit for police driver recruitment. The ruling came in response to a petition concerning the relaxation of the maximum age limit. Advocate General Pitambar Acharya informed the High Court about the decision to extend the age limit by four years.

This relaxation will apply to the 1,245 candidates who had filed applications in this matter. Earlier, in October last year, an advertisement had been issued for 405 driver posts. However, as no regular recruitment exams had been conducted, many aspiring candidates had approached the court seeking an increase in the maximum age limit.

As per the notification issued by the Odisha Police State Selection Board on October 3, 2024, the recruitment was for 405 driver posts, with the minimum and maximum age limits set at 18 and 23 years respectively as of January 1, 2024.

However, since no recruitment process for these posts had been conducted since 2020, many hopeful candidates crossed the age limit during the delay and petitioned the High Court for a relaxation.

Now, with the state government’s decision to extend the maximum age limit by four years, these candidates will be eligible to participate in the recruitment process.
