A special moment of the event was the conferral of an honorary Doctorate to Mrs. Raimati Ghiuria, a trailblazer from Kundra, Koraput, who has earned widespread recognition for her remarkable work in millet farming. Fondly known as the “Millet Queen,” Raimati has dedicated herself to preserving and promoting over 30 rare varieties of millet. Beyond her farming expertise, she has also empowered numerous women by teaching them the art of millet cultivation, helping them achieve both economic independence and food security.
Raimati’s tireless work has not only benefited her community but has also played a significant role in bringing millet farming back into the spotlight in Odisha. Her contribution to sustainable agriculture stands as an inspiring example of how tradition and innovation can go hand in hand to address the challenges of the modern world.
