President Droupadi Murmu recently graced the convocation ceremony at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar, where she spoke passionately about the growing challenges posed by climate change. Addressing the gathering, the President emphasized the need to tackle issues such as rising temperatures and increased greenhouse gas emissions, which are severely affecting agricultural production. She urged agricultural scientists to play a leading role in finding solutions to these pressing concerns.

A special moment of the event was the conferral of an honorary Doctorate to Mrs. Raimati Ghiuria, a trailblazer from Kundra, Koraput, who has earned widespread recognition for her remarkable work in millet farming. Fondly known as the “Millet Queen,” Raimati has dedicated herself to preserving and promoting over 30 rare varieties of millet. Beyond her farming expertise, she has also empowered numerous women by teaching them the art of millet cultivation, helping them achieve both economic independence and food security.

Raimati’s tireless work has not only benefited her community but has also played a significant role in bringing millet farming back into the spotlight in Odisha. Her contribution to sustainable agriculture stands as an inspiring example of how tradition and innovation can go hand in hand to address the challenges of the modern world.
