Rahul Maharana Wins National Youth Award for Environmental Efforts

4th April 2025: Rahul Maharana from Khordha, Odisha, has been awarded the National Youth Award for 2022-23 for his significant contributions to environmental conservation. His efforts in plastic waste cleanup, mangrove restoration, and biodiversity protection in Odisha’s coastal districts have made a remarkable impact.

Rahul’s environmental journey began in 2018 when he started cleaning the beaches of Astaranga in Puri district after seeing the waste there. Every Sunday, he would collect trash with a gunny bag, which gradually evolved into a community movement. His dedication caught national attention, and in March 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised his efforts during his Mann Ki Baat address.

Through his work, Rahul has not only improved the local environment but also raised awareness about the importance of protecting nature. His recognition with the National Youth Award highlights the power of youth-driven environmental action and serves as an inspiration to others.
