Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL), a joint venture promoted by MMTC Ltd, IPICOL, and other government agencies, operates a 1.1 million-ton integrated iron and steel plant located at Kalinganagar, Duburi, in the Jajpur district of Odisha. Currently, the plant produces key products including pig iron and LAM coke, along with by-products such as nut coke, coke breeze, crude tar, ammonium sulphate, and granulated slag (Phase-I). Plans for Phase-II include expanding production to billets, bars, and wire rods.

The company also runs a captive power plant to meet its internal energy needs, with significant exports of surplus power. NINL owns iron ore mines that are being developed to ensure a steady supply of raw materials for its operations.

Since 2004-05, NINL has established itself as India’s leading exporter of saleable pig iron, with a solid presence in both the domestic and international markets. The plant serves customers across India, particularly in the eastern, central, and northern regions, and supplies LAM coke to major steel producers such as Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd. (RINL) in Vishakhapatnam.

NINL’s “KAMDHENU” fertilizer is also highly sought after in local markets, and crude tar produced by the plant is dispatched to downstream industries for further processing. As NINL continues to grow and diversify, it plays a significant role in India’s steel production and export sector.
