14th February 2025: Sambalpur is set to establish a dedicated food street for street vendors, transforming the city’s food scene. The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) is working on a designated vending zone near Jail Square, designed in a butterfly shape, to provide a cleaner and more organized space for vendors and customers.

In the first phase, 16 vendors will be relocated to the new area, with the project expected to be completed by the end of February. Funded under the Mukta Scheme at a cost of ₹15 lakh, the initiative focuses on hygiene by banning plastic and promoting waste segregation. A variety of food will be available in a structured, clean environment, complete with parking facilities.

This project may serve as a model for other parts of Sambalpur if successful.
