Statewide Anti-Drug Campaign Begins April 1 with Goal of Making Odisha Drug-Free Through Awareness, Enforcement, and Community Participation

Bhubaneswar, April 01:  Odisha will launch a major campaign against drug abuse starting April 1. Director General of Police Y. B. Khurania stated that a special drive will be undertaken to completely eradicate narcotics, including ganja, within the next three years. He also added that all seized narcotic substances will be destroyed within three months.
The DGP said that strict enforcement drives are already being carried out against the sale of intoxicants within 500 meters of educational institutions, and this will continue in the future as well.
He further mentioned that synthetic drugs and other narcotics are entering the state from neighboring states, and there is a growing concern over the increasing sale of brown sugar. Efforts are being intensified to prevent the entry of such synthetic drugs into Odisha.
The DGP warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found selling drugs within 500 meters of educational institutions. In this regard, instructions have been issued to all district Superintendents of Police (SPs) to enforce the measures rigorously.
