Teacher Shortage Prompts Reappointment of 6,387 Retired Educator

Bhubaneswar, 4th Aug 2025:  Guest teachers will be appointed in government high schools, fully aided high schools, block grant high schools, and Sanskrit Tol schools. A total of 6,387 retired teachers will be reappointed for the current academic year.

A letter regarding this has been issued by the School and Mass Education Department to the Director of Secondary Education.

According to the letter, these guest teachers will serve until March 2026, or until new regular teachers are appointed. District Education Officers (DEOs) will inform the Director of Secondary Education about the existing vacancies in their respective districts. Based on this data, appointments will be made.

Priority will be given to appointing guest teachers in schools where teacher positions are currently vacant. With the approval of the District Collector, guest teachers will be appointed in those vacant posts. If a TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) is newly appointed or joins a school, the guest teacher already posted there will be removed and shifted to another school where a vacancy exists.

In Sanskrit Tol schools, retired IACT and Matric CT teachers will be considered for appointment as guest teachers. All appointment-related information must be submitted by the DEOs to the Director of Secondary Education.
