Thakurani Yatra in Umarkote Set to Start on March 23 with Traditional Rituals

Umarakot, Feb, 18:The renowned Navadin Thakurani Yatra of Maa Jagat Janani at Umarakot will commence on March 23. To ensure smooth organization of the Yatra, a large meeting was held today in the premises of Maa Mangal temple on Jharigaon Road, during which a new committee was formed.

By consensus, Binod Kishori Singh was appointed as President, Ashish Rao as Vice-President, Councillor Viki Nayak as Secretary, and Netra Harijan as Treasurer.

Maa’s Navadin Yatra will begin on March 23 and continue until March 31. On the evening of March 23, a grand assembly will see Maa leave the temple and arrive at her own house. On March 24, there will be a day of rest, and from March 25 onwards, the Ghanta Yatra (bell procession) will take place. Maa will then leave the city for public darshan, as is the tradition every year.

The committee discussed in detail that this year’s Yatra will be celebrated with grandeur, following the annual custom. A two-minute silent prayer was observed in memory of Balla Baldev Mali, who passed away recently.

The meeting was attended by the former Yatra committee president P. Ravan Rao, priest of Jagat Janani Bhuban Pujari, Rajat Santra, Councillor Mun. Padhi, priest Satya Mishra, Ashok Bevart, Ravi Nand, Lambu Majhi, and over a hundred other dignitaries.
