Anugul, Sept. 7 (UDN): A truck driver was killed after the vehicle carrying a heavy consignment of iron rods overturned near Jogimunda Chowk on National Highway 49 in Palalahada area of Anugul district late Sunday night.
According to preliminary reports, the truck was travelling from Sundargarh towards Keonjhar when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The truck overturned on the highway, causing the iron rods loaded on it to fall over the cabin.
The driver was trapped beneath the heavy iron rods and died at the spot. His identity was yet to be ascertained at the time of reporting.
Following information about the accident, personnel from the fire services and police reached the site and launched a rescue operation to recover the body from beneath the load.
The incident drew a large number of people to the spot, while the rescue operation continued for some time.
The exact circumstances that led to the truck overturning remain unclear. Police have begun an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
