Umerkote,11th Sept 2025: Nabarangpur District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain visited Umerkote on Tuesday. During his visit, he inspected the fertilizer stock at Umerkote LAMPS and various offices, including the Siddhi Vinayak Traders godown located near Umerkote town, where fertilizer is stored. He thoroughly examined all documents and registers during the inspection. According to reports, no discrepancies were found.
Umerkote region had recently been facing a shortage of fertilizers. However, adequate quantities have now been supplied to the area. The District Collector assured that farmers need not worry and can procure fertilizers from LAMPS and authorized dealers without any hassle.
He also instructed departmental officers to take strict action to prevent black marketing of fertilizers.
As Umerkote is a key agricultural region in Nabarangpur district, farmers often fail to receive urea and other fertilizers on time every year. There have even been instances of road blockades. Additionally, there were complaints to the District Collector that some traders were bringing fertilizers from Chhattisgarh and selling them to farmers at inflated prices, thereby exploiting them. This led to the District Collector conducting the inspection.
Along with the Collector, Umerkote Block Agriculture Officer Santosh Kumar Nayak, Raighar Block Agriculture Officer Rashmikant Sahu, and District Agriculture Officer Nihar Nayak were also present during the inspection.
