Voices Rise for District Status to Jeypore

Jeypore, March, 7:A memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister demanding that Jeypore be declared a separate district. The memorandum was submitted by the citizens of Jeypore through the Sub-Collector.

In the memorandum, it has been stated that under Article 162 of the Constitution of India, Jeypore should be declared an independent district. Citizens have argued that due to long-standing administrative difficulties and neglect, it is necessary to grant district status to Jeypore.

According to the proposal, the new district could include Jeypore Sub-division along with Lamtaput block of Koraput district, Govindpali from Malkangiri district, and Kosagumuda from Nabarangpur district.

The citizens expressed that if Jeypore is declared a new district, administrative efficiency will improve and new opportunities for development will open in the region. It is expected that employment, education, healthcare, and other basic facilities will see significant improvement.

Jeypore is considered one of the oldest towns in Odisha. Before independence and before the division of Koraput district, the town played an important administrative role. However, after the division of the district, Jeypore gradually lost its importance. The King of Jeypore had made significant sacrifices to maintain the unity of the state and had also contributed to the formation of Utkal Province before independence.

Currently, the Koraput sub-division covers an area of 5,837 square kilometers, while the Jeypore sub-division covers 2,970 square kilometers. Citizens believe that granting district status to Jeypore would improve administrative efficiency and accelerate regional development.

During the submission of the memorandum, several prominent citizens including Subhendu Brahma, Kiran Kumar Mishra, Madan Mohan Nayak, and Naveen Madala, along with other intellectuals, were present.
