5th March 2025: With the growing impact of climate change, Odisha is positioning itself as a major player in India’s solar energy sector. The state aims to add 10.95 GW of renewable energy by 2030, with 7.5 GW from solar. Odisha’s long coastline, ample sunlight, and favorable policies have attracted several solar companies, including Welspun New Energy and Saatvik Solar, which are setting up plants in districts like Ganjam and Dhenkanal.
The state enjoys over 300 sunny days a year and offers solar radiation of 5.3 kWh per square meter, making it ideal for solar projects. Odisha’s Industrial Policy provides incentives such as subsidies and exemptions, further boosting solar investments. With the potential for over 200 GW of untapped solar capacity, Odisha is well-positioned to lead India’s solar energy expansion.
As the demand for clean energy grows, Odisha’s efforts to expand its solar infrastructure will play a crucial role in meeting India’s renewable energy goals while promoting environmental sustainability and economic growth.
