Nabarangpur, Sept 28 [UDN}:The 24th meeting of the Nabarangpur District Planning Committee (DPC) was held on September 18, 2026, at the Mission Shakti Conference Hall in Nabarangpur, with emphasis on people-oriented development and the timely implementation of key welfare and infrastructure projects.
The meeting, which was the first DPC meeting of the current year following the completion of the election of District Planning Board members, was chaired by Nabarangpur MLA and District Planning Board Chairman Gouri Shankar Majhi. School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, Dabugaon MLA Manohar Randhari, Jharigam MLA Narasinh Bhatra, Zilla Parishad Chairman Motiram Nayak, the Vice-Chairman and other committee members attended the meeting. Nabarangpur Collector Dr Maheswar Swain, the Superintendent of Police and senior district-level officials from various departments, along with BDOs, were also present.
During the meeting, Chairman Gouri Shankar Majhi stressed the effective implementation of the KBK Development Scheme and called for greater attention to meeting the basic needs of the people. He particularly emphasized planned development of essential infrastructure such as drinking water, electricity and roads and directed the concerned officials to work in a coordinated and time-bound manner.
The committee also discussed the preparation of a list of necessary irrigation projects in areas receiving inadequate rainfall. It was emphasized that such projects should be implemented quickly after receiving the required approvals. The meeting further reviewed the need to submit feasibility reports at the earliest for projects included under the “Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha” initiative.
Development of the district’s handloom and textile sector was another important issue discussed. The committee considered opening an office of the Deputy Director of Textiles at the district headquarters to support the growth of the sector and provide greater encouragement and assistance to local weavers.
The meeting also placed emphasis on the successful implementation of Goshala-related initiatives, while discussing the identification of suitable ponds and water bodies that could be utilized to promote fish and shrimp farming. Development of sports infrastructure was also given priority, with discussions focusing on the construction and improvement of sports complexes and stadiums across the district.
Several major development projects were reviewed, including the proposed medical college, relocation of the GNM College, and construction of the bypass road. The committee stressed the need to accelerate these projects so that their benefits could reach the people at the earliest.
The meeting further emphasized coordination between all Tahasildars and the Education Department to ensure that land pattas are provided to schools without unnecessary delay. The need to expedite the distribution of Basundhara land pattas to landless families in the district was also highlighted.
On law and order, the committee discussed strengthening security arrangements by installing CCTV cameras at crowded public places and in all block headquarters towns. Additional police deployment at locations where it is considered necessary was also discussed as part of efforts to strengthen public safety and maintain law and order.
People’s representatives urged all departmental officials to prepare their respective annual action plans and ensure the timely and proper utilization of funds received under various government schemes. The committee stressed that allocated funds should be utilized effectively and within the prescribed timeframe.
₹10 Crore Proposed for 303 KBK Development Projects
A major proposal placed before the committee concerned 303 projects under the KBK Development Scheme, with a combined estimated cost of ₹10 crore.
According to the proposal, 170 projects listed for the 2024–25 financial year have been proposed with a total allocation of ₹5 crore. Another 133 projects listed for 2025–26, covering areas such as drinking water, electricity and road construction, have been proposed at a total cost of ₹5 crore.
Thus, proposals covering 303 projects with a combined estimated value of ₹10 crore were placed before the District Planning Committee for approval. The proposal was presented by Sunil Khara, Additional Development Officer of the Zilla Parishad and BDO, Nabarangpur.
Damage Caused by Heavy Rainfall Reviewed
Following the development-related discussions, the committee reviewed the assessment report concerning damage caused by excessive rainfall in the district.
Officials were directed to undertake the repair of damaged roads, bridges and culverts as quickly as possible and restore normal transportation facilities. The concerned departments were asked to take necessary measures on a priority basis so that connectivity in affected areas could be restored without delay.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate Dr Pramod Kumar Pushti, Nabarangpur Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra, Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer Dr Prafulla Kumar Padhi, along with senior officials, employees and BDOs from various departments.
Overall, the meeting focused on accelerating infrastructure and welfare initiatives, strengthening basic public services, improving irrigation and connectivity, promoting agriculture, fisheries, textiles and sports, and ensuring effective utilization of development funds for people-oriented development across Nabarangpur district.
