Jharsuguda: Aug 17 [UDN}:The 6th Jharsuguda District Badminton Championship-2026, organised by the Jharsuguda Badminton Association, was formally inaugurated at the Sports Complex located in Mangal Bazar, Jharsuguda.
Jharsuguda District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest and officially inaugurated the championship by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
The four-day badminton championship is being held from August 6 to 9, bringing together players from different age groups. Participants range from children under nine years of age to senior citizens above 60 years, making the event a major celebration of badminton talent across generations.
This year, more than 350 players are participating in a total of 22 different events across various age categories. The championship is providing a competitive platform for budding young players as well as experienced senior athletes to showcase their skills and sporting spirit.
The tournament will conclude with a closing ceremony and prize distribution programme on August 9, where the winners and outstanding performers will be felicitated.
The event has generated considerable enthusiasm among badminton enthusiasts and sports lovers in Jharsuguda, further promoting the culture of sports and encouraging participation in badminton at the district level.
