8th Central Pay Commission Sparks Fresh Hopes Among Government Staff and Teachers for Salary Hikes, Improved Allowances and Better Benefits

Bhubaneswar,Aug 11 [UDN}:Expectations among government employees and teachers have increased regarding the 8th Central Pay Commission, with various employee organizations putting forward a number of demands. Central teachers have reportedly proposed increasing the retirement age to 65 years and restoring the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

According to reports, these demands have now been placed before the 8th Pay Commission. Teachers’ organizations have sought changes not only in the retirement age but also in pension, promotions, and other service-related benefits.

Employee organizations have also intensified their demand for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme. A proposal has reportedly been made to provide Central Government employees currently covered under the National Pension System (NPS) an opportunity to opt for OPS, subject to certain conditions.

In addition, several other demands related to teachers’ salaries, House Rent Allowance (HRA), annual increments, and promotions have also been raised before the Commission. Some teachers’ organizations have also demanded an increase in the basic salary of entry-level teachers.

However, it is important to note that increasing the retirement age to 65 years or restoring the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) has not yet been approved by the government as an official rule. These are demands and proposals submitted before the 8th Pay Commission.

The actual impact of these proposals will become clear only after the Commission submits its final recommendations and the government takes a final decision on them.
