Ahead of the convocation, AIIMS Bhubaneswar highlighted its continued focus on strengthening healthcare services and medical education. The institute announced approval for establishing a dedicated Neonatal Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) under the Department of Pediatric Surgery.
The specialised unit will provide advanced care for critically ill newborns requiring surgical intervention, including preoperative stabilisation, postoperative intensive care and multidisciplinary treatment support.
Officials said the new facility will improve access to specialised neonatal surgical care, reduce the need for referrals outside the region and enhance treatment outcomes for newborn patients. The unit will also support postgraduate education, clinical training and research in neonatal surgery and critical care.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar stated that the initiatives reflect its commitment to advancing medical education, strengthening patient care and emerging as a leading healthcare institution serving eastern India.
