Bhubaneswar, July 17 (UDN): Odisha has recorded 17 per cent excess rainfall between July 1 and July 17, leading to waterlogging and localised flood-like situations in several districts, officials said.
The Water Resources Department informed that continuous rainfall activity has resulted in rising water levels in various rivers, while authorities are closely monitoring the overall situation across the state.
Engineer-in-Chief of the Water Resources Department Dillip Kumar Rout said the state has witnessed above-normal rainfall during the period, with several regions experiencing heavy showers. Officials are assessing the impact and maintaining regular surveillance of vulnerable areas.
The water level of the Hirakud reservoir in Sambalpur is expected to rise due to increased inflow from upstream areas. Authorities are keeping a close watch on reservoir conditions and river flows to ensure timely action whenever required.
Despite the excess rainfall, officials stated that there is no major flood situation across the state at present. However, district administrations have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures in affected areas.
The state government continues to monitor weather patterns, rainfall trends and water levels to manage any emerging challenges and ensure the safety of residents in vulnerable regions.
