Asika, Sept 2 [UDN}:An awareness programme on cyber fraud and the need to build a drug-free society was organised by Dharakote Police at Dhaugam under Dharakote Block in Ganjam district.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dharakote Police Station Officer Chandrika Swain, with Asika Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sourav Pradhan attending as the chief guest. President of the Asika Bar Association Chhabil Ram Mishra, former president Rabindranath Sharma, Ajit Kumar Choudhury, Sarpanch Manu Patra, Naib Sarpanch Rebati Nayak, MP representative Muna Pradhan, women’s leader Bharati Patra, and other dignitaries were present as guests.
Addressing the gathering, the guests cautioned people about the growing threat of online and cyber fraud. They explained that fraudsters often create fake accounts and fake identities on social media and other digital platforms to lure innocent people with attractive offers and promises. After gaining their confidence, the fraudsters deceive victims and siphon off large sums of money. They also warned that some criminals use anonymous or fake identities to blackmail and harass people.
The public was advised to remain extremely cautious while using social media and digital services, avoid interacting with suspicious individuals and accounts, and never share confidential or personal information, passwords, banking details, OTPs or other sensitive data with unknown persons.
The programme also focused on creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse. Speakers urged people to stay away from intoxicating substances in order to lead a healthy and fulfilling life and ensure the happiness, peace and prosperity of their families. They highlighted the physical, mental, social and financial consequences of addiction and called upon everyone to contribute towards building a drug-free society.
Anganwadi workers, members of women’s self-help groups, ASHA workers and local villagers participated in the awareness programme. Shiva Mahanti, Dwarika Parida and Tukuna Nahak extended their cooperation in organising the event.
At the end of the programme, Additional Police Station Officer Anjali Behera proposed the vote of thanks.
