Bhubaneswar, Aug. 17 (UDN): In a move aimed at improving the scientific and hygienic disposal of animal carcasses, Bhubaneswar is set to get an electric animal crematorium at Palasuni next month.

The facility, built at an estimated cost of ₹1.12 crore, will use an electric incinerator to cremate animal carcasses. The project, which was proposed around three years ago, had remained stalled due to various reasons before construction was finally completed.
Dedicated Facility for Animal Carcasses
Bhubaneswar reportedly witnesses the deaths of around 20 to 30 animals every day. In the absence of a dedicated cremation facility, animal carcasses have often been disposed of in open spaces and at different locations across the city.
The new facility is expected to provide a designated and more systematic option for handling such carcasses, reducing the practice of dumping dead animals in public areas.
Project Finally Completed
The Palasuni facility has now been completed and is expected to become operational following its inauguration next month.
The electric incinerator will allow animal carcasses to be cremated in a controlled environment, potentially helping improve sanitation and reduce problems associated with improper disposal.
Once operational, the facility will provide pet owners, civic authorities and others with a dedicated location for the cremation of deceased animals.
The project is being seen as an important step towards improving urban sanitation and introducing a more organised system for animal carcass management in the state capital.
