Bhubaneswar, Apr 27(BNP): In a major political development in Odisha, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to seek cancellation of the membership of eight MLAs allegedly involved in cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha elections.
The matter was discussed in detail during a meeting of the BJD legislative party held at Shankha Bhawan, where party leaders deliberated on the next course of action. Following the meeting, BJD legislators are set to approach the Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly with a formal demand for action against the concerned members.
According to party sources, the alleged cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha polls has been viewed seriously by the leadership, prompting the move to seek disqualification of the legislators.
The issue is expected to have significant political implications in the state, with further developments likely after the legislators meet the Speaker.
