Boudh, July 31 (UDN): The flood situation in Odisha’s Boudh district is gradually improving as water levels in the Mahanadi River remain below the danger mark. However, several villages continue to remain isolated due to lingering floodwaters and disrupted connectivity.
As of Thursday evening, the water level of the Mahanadi near the Boudh Irrigation Inspection Bungalow was recorded at 86.98 metres, with a discharge of around 7,64,633 cusecs. The decline in water levels has brought relief to some areas, but challenges remain for communities in low-lying regions.
More than 10 villages in Harabhanga block, including Jharasai, Shyamsundarpur, Karodi, Marada, Kudasinga, Dhalpur, and Khandidhalpur, continue to remain surrounded by floodwaters, affecting daily movement and access to essential services.
Floodwater has also submerged parts of the Jagannath Road connecting Boudh and Harabhanga, with water flowing at a depth of nearly two feet at certain stretches. As a safety measure, district authorities have restricted vehicular movement on the affected route to prevent accidents.
The flooding has also impacted agricultural areas, with thousands of acres of farmland inundated across the district. Farmers have expressed concern over possible damage to paddy and other standing crops due to prolonged waterlogging.
District administration teams are closely monitoring the situation and working to provide assistance to affected residents. Officials are continuing assessments, while efforts are underway to restore connectivity and minimise the impact of the floods.
