Bhubaneswar, July 2 (UDN): The Odisha government has approved a major infrastructure project to upgrade the Jayadev Vihar–Nandankanan road corridor into an 8-lane highway to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the capital region.
The project, estimated at ₹579 crore, aims to ensure smoother traffic movement between Jayadev Vihar, Nandankanan, Barang, and Cuttack, while reducing travel time, vehicle operating costs, and accident risks.
As part of the plan, multiple infrastructure upgrades will be undertaken, including the construction of six flyovers, service roads, slip roads, drainage systems, and improved traffic management structures. A key highlight of the project is the proposed cable-stayed flyover at Jayadev Vihar Junction on NH-16, designed to streamline high-volume traffic movement.
Major junctions such as Kalinga Hospital Square, Damana Square, KIIT Square, and Kalarahanga Square will also be upgraded with dedicated flyovers and improved road infrastructure. The project will include road beautification, street lighting, safety features, parking bays, and extensive landscaping.
The construction is expected to be completed within two years, and the executing agency will also be responsible for maintenance and defect correction for up to 10 years after completion.
Officials stated that the project is a key step toward decongesting one of Bhubaneswar’s busiest traffic corridors and improving urban mobility in the rapidly growing city.
