Bhubaneswar,June 8: The Cabinet has approved a new coastal highway project in Odisha. Approval has been granted for a 163-km road from Rameswar to Paradip. The estimated total cost of the project is around ₹8,300 crore.
The highway will start from Rameswar and extend up to Digha in West Bengal. Approval has been given for a 4-lane road covering 79 km from Rameswar to Konark, while the 80-km stretch from Konark to Paradip has been approved as a 2-lane road.
The new coastal highway will serve as an alternative route to NH-16 and NH-316.
The road has been designed for travel speeds of up to 100 km per hour. It will pass through the districts of Khordha, Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur.
Travel time from Rameswar to Paradip is expected to be reduced by around two and a half hours.
