Centre Assesses El Niño Preparedness as Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Holds Strategic Meeting with Senior Officials

New Delhi,June 22 {UDN}: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi with senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture to review the preparedness of the agriculture sector in view of the possible impact of El Niño conditions.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the potential effects of El Niño on the upcoming cropping season, rainfall patterns, water availability, and agricultural productivity. The Minister directed officials to closely monitor weather developments and ensure that contingency plans are in place to safeguard farmers’ interests.

He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and states to minimize any adverse impact on agriculture and ensure timely support for farmers. The meeting also reviewed strategies related to irrigation management, crop diversification, seed availability, and disaster preparedness measures.

Senior officials presented assessments and preparedness plans aimed at mitigating risks and ensuring food security in the event of adverse climatic conditions. The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting farmers and strengthening the resilience of the agricultural sector against climate-related challenges.
