Jharsuguda, June 29 {UDN}: A district-level consultation meeting and workshop on the elimination of child labour was organized at the DMF Auditorium in the District Collector’s Office. The programme was jointly conducted by the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Jharsuguda district administration.
Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Bachita Patra, attended as the chief guest and emphasized that every child represents the future of society. She said that only through collective efforts can Jharsuguda become a child labour-free district.
MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, attending as the guest of honour, urged that career counselling facilities for Class IX and X students should be provided through the CSR funds of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).
Among those present were Commission Member Chandana Das, District Collector Kunal Motiram Chandan, Additional District Magistrate Lalit Soreng, Additional Superintendent of Police James Samad, MLA’s representative Nawal Agrawal, MP’s representative Rina Patel, and Commission Resource Person Saroj Barik, who shared their views on strategies to eliminate child labour.
District Labour Officer Sujita Lakra delivered the welcome address, while Assistant Labour Officer Tarun Mohanty conducted the proceedings and coordinated the programme.
The workshop concluded with a collective resolution to intensify awareness, enforcement, and community participation with the goal of making Jharsuguda completely free from child labour by 2036.
